The wave of GLOBALIZATION that has engulfed the world economy in recent decades spared no nation, not the least the Egyptian society. The opening of borders and lowering of barriers for the movement of capital and of goods and services driven mainly by market forces and supremacy of capital, have had profound effects, both economic and social on most societies .

The effect on the Egyptian economy was nothing but catastrophic. Local means of production in the public sector were either bought by foreign capital in a fire sale fashion or bankrupted. Even most private sector units of value were taken over. Egyptian society at large has thus been transformed into consumers hypnotized by slick and sophisticated barrages of advertising while producing very little to consume or suitable for export.

This unsustainable state of affairs calls for an economic revolution not unlike one undertaken a century ago by a group of Egyptian leaders under the genius economist Mohamed Talaat Harb. Following his philosophy and inspired by his actions and achievements, in order to re-establish the balance to the Egyptian economy, we call this conference to be convened on the occasion of his 149th birthday on November 28, 2016.
